We need your help
Brain cancer is an insidious disease that strikes impartially, the young and old, the fit and frail. It is difficult to research and relatively rare and as a result, does not receive as much funding as other, more prevalent or easily treatable cancers.
Roger Troth, my husband, has an inoperable brain tumour, and, at this point in time, incurable. Since his symptoms began in late 2008 our lives have changed irrevocably, and we are learning to live with a new kind of normal. As a family we are strong, and will fight this disease with all the strength we possess, but sometimes we could use a bit of help, and this is where we need you, our friends.
Roger has always maintained that the tie was the only way a man could express his individuality and brighten up a formal (read boring) man’s suit. He has an extensive collection of more than 40 ties. His ties reflect his personality, colourful, clever, a bit psychedelic, with occasional rocket scientist themes and a brief dabble in South Park.
Now, Rog’s illness prevents him from working and while he admits that it’s not all bad being out of the rat race, he has no reason to wear his beloved ties anymore. Rather than let them waste away in his wardrobe, he and I are asking you to help researchers find a cure for Brain Cancer, and at the same time, give his ties a new home.

My pledge
This year I joined CanToo, a wonderful organisation that helps us make a difference by raising funds to directly support breakthrough cancer research. On19th September, I am running the Blackmores marathon at the Sydney Running Festival with the goal to raise as much money as possible for Cure Cancer Australia. Can Too is sponsored by Macquarie Group Foundation so all of their costs are covered. This means every cent you donate goes directly to cancer research.
What you can do
If you would like to sponsor me through Can Too, thereby sending much needed funding to brain cancer research, then go to Ties and view Roger’s gorgeous, colourful neckwear.
Get a tie
If you pick one or several from the main collection (Get a tie), they can be yours for a $40 sponsorship. Pick the one you would like to set free from Roger’s cupboard, click on Comment(s) and type in your name (and a comment if you like!) to reserve it. I will be in touch to arrange delivery. Next, go to www.cantoo.org.au and select the sponsorship page, type in my surname Oliveira and donate your $40.
Bid for a tie
If you have your mind set on one of the pièces de résistance, a small set of his very favourites, then you can bid on it, starting at $40. Once bidding ends on 21st June 2010, go and check if you are a successful bidder and leave a final comment to let us know how you would like your gorgeous tie to be delivered. Next, go to www.cantoo.org.au and select the sponsorship page, type in my surname Oliveira and donate your successful bidding price.
Just sponsor me
If $40 is a bit steep, or you do not need/want a beautiful handpicked tie, we are grateful for any contributions you are able to give.
